Installation of 26 High-Efficiency Solar Panels on a Clay Tile Roof

Project Overview:

This project involved the installation of a new solar panel system on a clay tile roof, with provisions for a roof-mounted configuration designed to maximize sun exposure and system efficiency while maintaining the roof’s structural integrity.

System Components:

• Solar Panels: 26 high-efficiency panels installed on clay tile roofing.
• Inverters: 26 Enphase IQ8 microinverters, each with a peak output of 384 W.
• AC Rating: The total system size was updated to 9.984 kWAC, calculated as (26 × 384) ÷ 1000.
• Wiring & Conduit: Wire tags and sizing details were added between the sub panel and the main service panel (MSP), including voltage rise calculations.
• Electrical Integration: A key note was added to sheet ESPV-0 stating, “Electrical equipment shall be listed by a City of Los Angeles recognized electrical testing laboratory or approved by the department. (93.0402).” Additionally, custom annotations were made to sheets ESPV-0 and ESPV-4 to reflect the revised KWAC calculation, and sheet ESPV-4A was updated to include wire tags, wire sizes, and voltage rise details between the sub panel and the main service panel (MSP).

Project Highlights:

• All plan sheets now include the contractor’s name, signature, and license expiration for approval readiness.
• The system adheres to all LADBS codes and includes updated electrical labeling per city requirements.
• The design maintains structural integrity and supports long-term performance and compliance.
